South Texas Training Center began in 1997 with a clear vision to provide a pathway to those seeking careers in the medical field. Then named The South Texas Nurse Aide Training Center, our founders Hilda C. Silva, RN-BC, and Elia Lopez, RN, started a Nurse Aide Assistant program that helped many in the Rio Grande Valley achieve more fulfilling careers.

Our first campus opened in Pharr, Texas, which is still open today. This was followed by our second location in Harlingen in 1999, which moved to its current location in San Benito a few years after opening. In 2004, Laredo became home to our third and largest campus. This growth led to our institution becoming one of the most sought out vocational schools in the area.

After adding new programs including the Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, and Medical Office Coding and Billing, we changed our name to South Texas Training Center to reflect our growth and continued support for students looking to improve their careers.

In 2005, Founder and Chief Administrative Officer Silva led the institution through a lengthy accreditation process. With this, we are now a fully accredited institution and have access to federal funds for financial aid for students who qualify.

Over the last 22 years, we have continued our commitment to providing knowledge and training to our students so they can move from a place of limited opportunities to a marketplace where they can earn promising careers and a meaningful life for themselves and their families.
